大家好,上次跟大家分享台北為什麼是全球最適合遠距工作的城市之一,還有我個人的居住的經驗和觀察,不知道大家喜不喜歡喝珍珠奶茶,手搖飲料對許多台灣人而言,是非常重要的,今天是4月30號,「國際珍奶日」,本週要跟大家介紹這個不是由台灣人發明的「國際珍奶日」。
國際珍奶日的起源
雖然珍珠奶茶是台灣發明的飲料,但「國際珍奶日」並不是台灣人發明的,「國際珍奶日」其實是由美國的手搖飲料品牌「Kung Fu Tea功夫茶」在2018年所訂的,他們選擇品牌的創辦日期4月30號作為「國際珍奶日」,讓許多喜愛珍奶的人一同在這天慶祝。
在台灣的「國際珍奶日」
珍珠奶茶平時就是許多台灣人常喝的飲料,為了慶祝「國際珍奶日」,許多店家都有優惠活動,例如7-11就有買一送一的活動,許多飲料店也有第二杯十元的優惠,不過我身邊的朋友沒有很多人慶祝這個「國際珍奶日」。
珍珠奶茶是誰發明的?
在台灣,說到誰發明珍珠奶茶,一直都有爭議。在台中的「春水堂」和台南的「翰林茶館」都強調自己才是發明珍珠奶茶的店家,為了證明誰才是真正的發明者,雙方也互相提告,不過經過 10 多年訴訟,最後法院判決珍珠奶茶是新型飲料,並不是專利商品,因此沒有人可以取得專利。
珍珠奶茶和波霸奶茶
在台灣如果想買珍珠奶茶,很可能會看到菜單上面有「珍珠奶茶」和「波霸奶茶」,這兩種茶其實都是粉圓,不過珍珠是小粉圓,而波霸是大粉圓,在我小的時候,珍珠奶茶都是小粉圓,不過現在已經有不少茶店多了「波霸奶茶」的選擇。
珍珠奶茶和珍珠鮮奶茶
珍珠奶茶和珍珠鮮奶茶有什麼不同呢?珍珠奶茶裡面的牛奶並不是真正的牛奶,而是奶精,如果想喝加了牛奶的珍珠奶茶,記得要點「珍珠鮮奶茶」或是「珍珠拿鐵」。
珍珠奶茶對我的意義
比起一般的台灣人,我並不常喝珍珠奶茶,一年喝珍珠奶茶的次數可能只有五次,不過有時還是會去手搖飲料店買飲料,但我更喜歡喝少一點糖的紅茶或是綠茶。不過身為台中人,從小我就很常去「春水堂」,春水堂是一個可以跟家人和朋友聊天的地方,我們不僅會喝珍珠奶茶,也會喝紅茶、綠茶等,大部分的時候都會喝冰的。對我來說,因為從小喝珍珠奶茶的關係,即使我知道奶精比較不健康,但加了奶精的珍珠奶茶才是我記憶中的味道,尤其在很累的時候,喝一杯又冰又甜的手搖飲,可以讓人瞬間感受到滿滿的幸福。

Last time I shared with you why Taipei is one of the best cities globally for remote work, along with my personal living experience and observations. I wonder if you all like drinking bubble tea. For many Taiwanese, bubble tea is a significant indulgence. Today is April 30th, this week I would like to introduce "National Bubble Tea Day," which wasn't originated by Taiwanese people.
Origin of National Bubble Tea Day
Although bubble tea is a Taiwanese invention, "National Bubble Tea Day" wasn't created by Taiwanese. It was actually designated by the American bubble tea brand "Kung Fu Tea" in 2018. They chose their brand's founding date, April 30th, as "National Bubble Tea Day," inviting bubble tea enthusiasts worldwide to celebrate together.
National Bubble Tea Day in Taiwan
Bubble tea is a popular beverage in Taiwan, and to celebrate "National Bubble Tea Day," many stores offer promotions. For example, 7-Eleven has buy-one-get-one-free deals, and many beverage shops have discounts like the second cup for ten NT dollars. However, not many of my friends around me celebrate this "National Bubble Tea Day."
Who Invented Bubble Tea?
In Taiwan, there has always been a dispute over who invented bubble tea. Both “Chun Shui Tang” in Taichung and “Hanlin Tea Room” in Tainan claim to be the inventors. To prove the true inventor, both sides have sued each other. However, after more than 10 years of litigation, the court ruled that bubble tea is a new type of beverage, not a patented product, so no one can obtain a patent for it.
Bubble Tea vs. Boba Milk Tea
In Taiwan, if you want to buy bubble tea, you might see "bubble tea" and "boba milk tea" on the menu. Both of these teas actually contain tapioca pearls, but bubble tea has small tapioca pearls, while boba has large ones. When I was young, bubble tea only had small pearls, but now many tea shops offer "boba milk tea" as well.
Bubble Tea vs. Pearls Tea With Fresh Milk
What's the difference between bubble tea and milk tea with pearls? The milk in bubble tea isn't real milk, it's creamer. If you want bubble tea with real milk, remember to order "pearls tea with fresh milk" or "pearl latte."
The Meaning of Bubble Tea to Me
Unlike many Taiwanese, I don't drink bubble tea often. I might only drink it about five times a year, but I still occasionally visit bubble tea shops. I prefer teas with less sugar, like red or green tea. However, as a local from Taichung, I go to “Chun Shui Tang” very often since childhood. Chun Shui Tang is a place where I can chat with family and friends. We not only drink bubble tea but also drink red tea, green tea, and so on, most of the time iced. For me, because I've been drinking bubble tea since I was young, even though I know creamer isn't very healthy, bubble tea with creamer is the taste I remember, especially when I'm very tired, drinking a cup of ice-cold, sweet bubble tea can instantly make me feel happy.
