Hello everyone, last time I shared with you how terrifying Tiger Moms can be in Taiwan. Did you get shocked after seeing the plans arranged by Tiger Mom. These days, Taiwan's news has been continuously reporting on the stock market because Taiwan's most important semiconductor company, TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company), not only successfully established factories in Japan but also saw its stock price reaching new highs. This week, I'd like to share with you from the perspective of young people”The Taiwan stock market hits new highs, why Taiwanese people are so fond of investing in stocks?”
In recent years, the age of Taiwanese investors has been decreasing. According to data released by the Taiwan Stock Exchange this year, over half of the Taiwanese youth aged 20 to 30 are investing in stocks. Taiwan has a population of approximately 23 million, but the number of people investing in stocks reaches 12 million. But why stocks?
First, Taiwan's pride, TSMC.
TSMC is Taiwan's most important semiconductor company and a key factor in the Taiwanese stock market hitting new highs. The semiconductor industry not only brings substantial profits to Taiwan but also becomes a crucial industry for safeguarding Taiwan's security because it is needed worldwide. The average salary for Taiwanese workers is 700,000 NTD, but employees at TSMC typically earn over 1 million NTD annually. Many Taiwanese people feel that if they cannot work at TSMC, they can at least invest in its stocks.
Second, soaring housing prices.
Apart from stocks, the most favored investment option for Taiwanese people is real estate, but housing prices in Taiwan are excessively high. According to surveys, it takes around 13 years of saving without spending on anything else to accumulate a 20% down payment for a house in Taipei, which is approximately 5 million NTD. So, those who can invest in houses are mostly older wealthy individuals. For ordinary people, even buying their own houses is challenging, so stocks become a more accessible investment tool.
Third, internet information.
In Taiwan, whether on television or the internet, it's easy to find information about investing in stocks. Moreover, more and more young people are sharing their investment experiences on social media. Investing in stocks in Taiwan has become very convenient, requiring only the operation of mobile apps, making investing in stocks a straightforward task.
However, there's a saying in Taiwan that when even the aunties at the market start talking about investing in stocks, it's time for stocks to decline. Compared to young people, the older generation still prefers conservative investments. Do you like saving money? What's your favorite investment method in your country? Feel free to share with me!
